Safety is our number one goal.
Our coaches are NCCP certified and have passed a background check. We have a fully stocked first aid kit and many of our coaches are trained/certified in first aid. We will not teach techniques that are unsafe for the age or ability of the judoka. We also demand that judoka not practice throws at home or at school. Judo needs to be practised under supervision of a coach. The exception is using judo to defend yourself.
Our coaches have been trained to identify the signs of a concussion. We will communicate with you (and/or parents/guardians) if we suspect a concussion and that the judoka should be seen by a medical professional. It is important to follow the protocols as relapses or subsequent concussions can make the symptoms worse.
On the mats
If you're hurt or don't feel well, tell a coach.
If you're bleeding or find blood on your judogi, tell a coach immediately. We have sanitizers for the mats. Peroxide can be used on the gi.
If you have to leave the mats (i.e. bathroom), tell a coach.
Adults
If you haven't been on the mats in a while, TAKE IT SLOW! Pace yourself. If something feels weird, talk to a coach. We want to make sure that you can function the next day.
Snow days
Assume no judo if school has been cancelled due to weather. Watch for messages and e-mail. For Sundays, a decision will be communicated by noon.
Evacuations
If we have to leave the building,
Option 1: we're going out the back door, turning right (away from Glen Allen Dr), and walking to the muster spot in the parking lot.
Option 2: If that route is blocked, we will go onto the walking trail (right behind the building), turn left, and walk to Glen Allen Dr.
Option 3: If the back door is blocked, we're heading down the short track and out the side door. We will muster in the parking lot.
Coaches will then contact any parents who are not present by telephone.
