Starting judo can be a little intimidating. There are a whole bunch of new people who are dressed differently running and crawling around doing strange exercises. Some of them even look like they hurt!
Depending on your age, the first few classes will be slightly different. The younger judoka in the kid's class learn the basics by playing judo based games.
Adults and intermediate judoka will get a chance to learn ukemi (breakfalls) off to the side with a coach. Breakfalls are a critical part of judo to learn as a beginner.
New students should wear a t-shirt and gym pants (or comfy pants with no zippers/buckles/hard parts and preferably can tie up at the waist). We have clean jackets and belts at the dojo to wear for now. We wash them in between classes. Also bring a water bottle and easy to put on indoor shoes. I use inexpensive flip flops or thick socks.
Adults
If you haven't been on the mats in a while, TAKE IT SLOW! Pace yourself. If something feels weird, talk to a coach. We want to make sure that you can function the next day.
